Lighting Up The Weird

Drummer, creative technologist, and builder of digital trips. I fuse real-time visuals, custom hardware, and the code that makes it all dance. Whether I'm behind the kit or wiring up a space, it's all about the groove. Broadcasting from Austin, Texas.

Mazda Spectrum Analyzer interactive installation

Interactive2022

Mazda Spectrum Analyzer

with Colin McQuilkin Design

An interactive spectrum analyzer built for Mazda — live audio driving a reactive visual system guests could play with directly.

Who Dat Owls

with Colin McQuilkin Design

Projection-mapped owl sculptures produced as public art — fabrication and mapped content on a sculptural surface.

A modular pod experience built for travelling deployment — enclosure, projection, and playback as one system.

Scenic fabrication for projection installations

Fabrication

Scenic fabrication

with Colin McQuilkin Design

The physical builds behind the installations — frames, surfaces, and mounts engineered to take projection and travel.

Personal work

3D motion graphics.

Generative character work, rigged animation, and VJ loops — motion pieces built in the studio, often as the testbed for what ends up on a wall.

Floating Wizard generative character piece

Digital art

Floating Wizard

A generative character piece built through a custom AI image pipeline and composited into a looping scene.

Spin Volcano rigged and animated 3D scene

3D · Animation · Rigging

The Adventures of Dex Quasar

An original character project — modeling, rigging, shading, and animation built out into a full scene.

Concert visuals mapped onto a sculpted mask

Concert visuals

Customized concert visuals

Custom stage content mapped onto a sculpted mask piece, cued to the set.

Tunnel Zoom VJ loop

VJ visuals

Tunnel Zoom

A looping tunnel run from the VJ library — built to hold up on a big wall and cut cleanly against a live set.

What I work in

Seven disciplines, one workbench.

If a project needs to be designed, lit, wired, coded, or printed, it usually needs all of them at once.

Real-time

Making Spaces React

Interactive installations where the environment responds to the audience. Live depth-tracking, reactive lighting, and generative art that moves with the room.

3D

Building Digital Worlds

Crafting 3D environments, soft-body physics, and motion graphics, then taking those digital concepts and physically 3D-printing them into reality.

Hardware

Wiring the Physical

Turning static spaces dynamic. Custom addressable LED rigs for live events, bespoke circuit boards, and motors that drive kinetic sculptures.

Code

Writing the Logic

The custom software that runs the show. Building the backend architecture, desktop tools, and web apps that make complex interactive setups run flawlessly.

Design

Crafting the Aesthetic

Full-spectrum digital design. From raster painting and vector art to high-end video compositing and print layouts, ensuring everything looks exactly how it should.

AI

Training the Machine

Exploring the edge of digital art. Wiring up custom AI pipelines to generate new visual styles, automate image creation, and build surreal concepts fast.

Commerce

Selling the Vision

Customizing the digital retail experience. Building out e-commerce platforms with unique product flows so the final creations look as good in the cart as they do in the studio.

About

Half Artist, Half Engineer

I move between studios, stages, and codebases — modeling in Blender one week, soldering an LED rig the next, writing the Python that makes the third week possible.

The through-line is that I like making things people can stand in front of. If it needs to be designed, animated, lit, wired, coded, or printed, that's the job — and it usually needs several of those at once.
